Update on this, it seems that Acer is indeed offering preinstalled linux on some Aspire models, but not in the Ubuntu flavour, reseller Memory World was responsible for the deed, but only a few 50 were sold. D-Nexus, another Singaporean reseller, is offering Acer notebooks pre installed with Linpus, a Taiwanese distro.
