I’m always afraid of what comes out of the xda-developers forums, generally the rom cooks(people who build custom roms) have an indisputable bad taste regarding aesthetics, usability, they like blue moons, wallpapers from 2001, alien fonts and much more. The amount of junkware they tend to bundle with their roms is also annoying, not to speak of the ones who like to brand and distribute roms that need a free unlocking tool, weird people.
Anyhoo, today I came across cyanogen’s work, he created a very nice rom, based on the google build and it’s using the standard android theme, which is great( although the lock screen has been defaced and contrast is too low ). He only included HTC’s camera app, which is superior to the default one(has timer, grid, exposure, and a bunch of other improvements, but no GPS Tagging, which sucks) HTC IME(virtual keyboard, disabled by default) and HTC framework which I guess it’s needed for the camera to work. CPU Clocks have been tweaked too, fast responsive scaling and max clock increased to 528mhz which is the cpu’s stable max I believe. There are a bunch of other stuff like A2SD(apps to sd card, requires class6 microsd)
Refreshing work, even donated a few dollars to him ( shame he didn’t reply to my @’s or PMs ), advise you to try it out( current v3.6.2 ).
Combine that with the Pimped out recovery image and you’ve got yourself a nice upgrade from the default firmware, it supports full device backup/restore to microsd with Nandroid, among other more technical features, awesome.
